NM EPSCoR joins DataONE

By Amber Budden, DataONE

DataONE welcomes the NM EPSCoR as the 28th Member Node to join the federation. NM EPSCoR and DataONE have a long history of collaboration. The development of a Tier 4 Member Node at EPSCoR enhances the partnership by providing another replication target for other Member Nodes in the federation and increasing visibility of NM EPSCoR’s holdings to a broader audience.

New Mexico EPSCoR is working to improve the research, cyberinfrastructure, and human resources required for New Mexico to achieve its energy, education, and workforce development potential. The infrastructure and activities of Energize New Mexico are designed to support shared-use equipment, engage new research and community college faculty, and support the STEM pipeline by training teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. Research findings will be communicated broadly through new partnerships with NM's museum network, a citizen-centric web portal, and vibrant, experiential programs targeting K-12 students.

Building on previous NM EPSCoR investments in collaboration with the NM Resource Geographic Information System (RGIS) housed at UNM, NM EPSCoR’s current cyberinfrastructure (CI) plan will:

  • provide scientists, educators, and decision-makers with easy access to data, information, and models related to EPSCoR research and STEM activities;
  • promote discovery and use of EPSCoR data and information; and
  • support improved statewide data and data visualization through virtual collaboration tools.

Work will focus on improving the data storage and modeling portal to provide the analytic services and user interfaces that will increase its value and utility for researchers and educators. New Mexico EPSCoR will continue collaborations with Idaho (see the Northwest Knowledge Network) and Nevada (see the Nevada Research Data Center) EPSCoR Programs to connect EPSCoR work with national networks as well as national and international registries.
