It’s time for me to say farewell to the New Mexico EPSCoR community and embark on new adventures. It has been a pleasure to work with you all and get to know many of you over the last five years. I hope you’ll provide a warm reception to Dr. Selena Connealy, who is the newly appointed Interim Associate Director for NM EPSCoR. Many of you already know Selena, and know not only her deep expertise in STEM education and managing team science and outreach projects, but also know how delightful she is to work with. 

EPSCoR occupies an important niche in New Mexico and is one of the few organizations that brings together our research universities, primarily undergraduate institutions, national laboratories, and other partners under a common agenda: to grow research capacity in New Mexico in areas of strategic importance. While each institution understandably looks out for its own interests, NM EPSCoR provides a space for—and funding to support—research programs that will benefit the state as a whole, strengthening our higher education institutions, student experiences, and future workforce. In this time of significant budget cuts across higher education, the federal funding that EPSCoR programs provide have perhaps never been more critical to keep building and maintaining scientific research capacity in our state. Thank you all for engaging with NM EPSCoR and pursuing this important work.

New Mexico is a small state, so I hope to continue to see many of you, even in person again someday. Hasta pronto!
