WILLIAM D. NORDHAUS was born in Albuquerque. His “earliest memories are of the warm climate, skiing in winter, trout fishing in summer, and a fragrant alfalfa field outside [his] window.” He is Sterling Professor of Economics at Yale University, and from 1977 to 1979 was a member of President Carter’s Council of Economic Advisors. Dr. Nordhaus created a quantitative model to assess and apply the global costs of climate change, known as the DICE model, and received the 2018 Nobel Prize in Economics for his work. His research has encompassed environmental economics, climate change, health economics, augmented national accounting, the political business cycle, and productivity.
